CERTIFICATION OF SUBSPECIALISTS

red leavesIn addition to certifying obstetrician-gynecologists, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology also examines and certifies subspecialists in maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility and gynecologic oncology.

APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE

Applications for approval of fellowship programs are now available on the ABOG Web site:

The applications are Portable Document Format (PDF) files. To read and print them, you will need Acrobat Reader, which is available as free download.

Applications should be printed out and typewritten. The original and five copies of the Institutional Application must be returned to Board Office. The approval of a new fellowship program can take up to one year after receipt of the application and fee in the Board Office. See APPROVAL OF FELLOWSHIPS DEADLINES AND FEES.


MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION FOR SUBSPECIALISTS

The Board also examines subspecialists for the purpose of maintenance of certification.

In addition, the Board approves graduate medical education programs (fellowships) in the subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF REQUIREMENTS IN THE BULLETIN

The information in this section is taken from the Bulletin 2007- 2008, The Divisions of Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, which was issued in September 2006. The Bulletin is the official statement of the requirements in effect for the Divisions' 2007 and 2008 examinations.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITY

It is the responsibility of the candidate to seek information concerning the current requirements for certification as a subspecialist in obstetrics and gynecology.

The Board (or the Division) does not assume responsibility for notifying a candidate of changing requirements for admissibility to any examination or impending loss of admissibility to any examination.

Moreover, the candidate must meet the eligibility requirements published in the Bulletin dated for the year in which they are to take the examination. It is the candidate's responsibility to read the applicable Bulletin, to follow the published requirements and to meet the published deadlines.
