Ronald D. Alvarez, MD, MBA, Appointed Director-At-Large for ABOG


Dallas, Texas (July 23, 2018)Ronald D. Alvarez, MD, MBA, was elected to Director-At-Large member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) at the June 2018 Board of Directors meeting. Dr. Alvarez’s role became effective on July 1st and is a 6-year term. Since 2016, Dr. Alvarez has been Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Prior to that, he was Professor and served as Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  He received his B.S. in Zoology from Louisiana State University in 1979 and his M.D. from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans in 1983. His postgraduate training included a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology (1987) and fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology (1990), both completed at UAB.

Dr. Alvarez’s long-term research interests have included the development of novel gene-based therapeutics for ovarian cancer and new screening and prevention strategies for cervical cancer.  He has published more than 250 articles in various peer-reviewed journals. He served until recently as the ABOG Division Chair for the Gynecologic Oncology Subspecialty and the ABOG Subspecialty Committee Chair.
