EMERGENCY CARE AND LIMITATION OF PRACTICE
Physicians who assume responsibility for the health of male patients for operative or other care will not be regarded as specialists in obstetrics and gynecology except as this practice is related to governmental services, the investigation and management of an infertility problem, or care in an emergency.
Physicians for recertification may, when necessary, participate in general emergency care.
What constitutes a satisfactory limitation of practice to the specialty necessarily depends upon the qualifications and experience of the individual, the availability and capabilities of other physicians in the community and to some extent, what is customary in local practices.
As a rule, the privileges granted physicians in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology in any hospital are the prerogative of that hospital, not of this Board.
APPLICATION LIMITS
To apply for the Maintenance of Certification through either the written, oral or ABC processes, an application may be requested by writing or sending a fax to (214) 871-1943 to the Board office.
The deadline for receipt of completed applications is January 12, 2007 for the ABC and December 15, 2006 for the written examination.
Applications received after the above dates, will be charged the appropriate late fee (see SUMMARY OF DATES, DEADLINES, FEES AND LATE FEES FOR 2007 EXAMINATIONS).
Application to sit for the oral examination may be requested through July 27, 2007.
RESULTS OF THE EXAMINATION
The results of the Maintenance of Certification written examinations will be reported confidentially to each physician within nine (9) weeks.
The results of the oral examination will be reported to each physician within four (4) weeks.
The total results of the Annual Board Certification will be reported to each physician no later than November, 2007.
If a candidate has not received notification of their grade on the ABC examination by November 30, 2007, it is the responsibility of the Diplomate to contact the Board regarding this matter.
LISTING OF RECERTIFIED DIPLOMATES
Each year the Board office notifies the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of the names and addresses of the Diplomates recertified in that year.
A list of the names of the most recently recertified Diplomates is also sent to The American Medical Association and to the American Board of Medical Specialties with the request that they be included in the next issues of (a) the American Medical Association Directory and (b) the Directory of Certified Obstetricians-Gynecologists.
After this effort to assure initial listings of the newly recertified Diplomates, the Board assumes no responsibility for a Diplomate's listing in subsequent issues of any directory.
