Mantenance of Certification

INTRODUCTION: 2007 EXAMINATIONS

2007 Written Examination

The Maintenance of Certification written examination will be given on June 26, 2007 in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as the three subspecialties.

By holding this examination in June we are able to offer it at multiple sites throughout the United States.

An alternative form of recertification, if unable to sit for the June Maintenance of Certification, is the Annual Board Certification (see below).

2007 Annual Board Certification

The 2007 Annual Board Certification (ABC) examination will be offered in both general obstetrics and gynecology and the three subspecialties.

There will be at least twenty five (25) CME credits granted for successful completion of the ABC examination in the year the examination is completed.

The ABC examination is offered to all Diplomates, however, Diplomates taking the ABC examination more than two (2) years prior to their expiration date will be voluntarily recertified.

Physicians interested in any of the above examinations should send a written request for an application to the Board office at 2915 Vine St., Dallas, TX, 75204, or fax a request to (214) 871-1943, attention Recertification Department, or, email your name, address, and social security number to recert@abog.org.

Oral Examination

An oral examination is available as an alternate method of maintenance of certification in obstetrics and gynecology and the three subspecialties for those physicians who have previously not passed all other avenues of recertification.

Physicians who have elected to take the oral examination will be notified in November as to which examination listed below they have been assigned. These dates are:

December 3 - 7, 2007

January 7 -11, 2008

This examination is offered at the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Test Center in Dallas, TX only and will be a one and one-half (1 1/2) hour examination.

The oral examination will involve submitting a six-month case list from the physician's practice (January 1 through June 30).

The oral examination is designed to evaluate the physician's knowledge and ability to solve clinical problems in obstetrics, gynecology, and women's health. It is emphasized that physicians will be examined in obstetrics and gynecology, and wonen's health, to evaluate actual behavior in independent practice.

The examination will consist of questions concerning patient management problems. The physician's case list will be used by the examiners for this purpose. In addition, other clinical problems will be included in the examinatiion. Ther remainder of the examination will include basic knowledge in obstetrics, gynecology, and women's health.

More information regarding the oral examination can be obtained by writing or faxing a request no later than July 27, 2007 to Marsha Markham, Maintenance of Certification Administrator at ABOG, 2915 Vine St., Dallas, TX, 75204, fax (214) 871-1943 or by email, mmarkham@abog.org.
