ABMS Portfolio Program

Many physicians engage in quality improvement (QI) within their practice and/or institution. The ABMS Portfolio Program offers healthcare organizations a way to approve these QI efforts for ABOG Continuing Certification (“CC”) Part IV credit.

Most Portfolio Program QI activities are institution or hospital-sponsored and can be multi-disciplinary or specific to Obstetrics and Gynecology. Projects must meet Portfolio Program standards and have ABOG approval. Long-term projects may be extended for ongoing QI activities. Diplomates who participate meaningfully in these projects will fulfill Part IV requirements for the 2025 CC.

  1. ABOG-approved Quality Improvement (QI) Efforts. QI activities are sponsored by practices, institutions, or departments. QI projects may be multidisciplinary or specialty-specific in obstetrics and gynecology.
  2. ABOG-approved Simulation Courses
  3. Quality Improvement (QI) Publications, Presentations, and Posters

Meaningful participation is a primary consideration for credit for quality improvement efforts. The goal of the Practice Improvement requirement is for diplomates to regularly assess their performance by reviewing their outcomes, addressing identified areas for improvement, and evaluating the results of interventions. This can also be satisfied by ongoing participation in a local, regional, or national outcomes registry or quality assessment program. The ABOG does not award Part IV credits for research. (Fig 1)

The applicant will be responsible for submitting a list of participants by November 1st of each year to ensure processing before the Continuing Certification deadline of November 15. Participant lists should be submitted within the online application system or emailed to IHHC@abog.org.

After an activity sponsor submits an application, ABOG staff reviews the application. During the review period, the sponsor may be asked to clarify information about the activity. Please allow for up to two weeks for review.

Applying for approval in MOCAM is free for diplomates and organization sponsors (non-Diplomates such as professional societies, Women’s Health Non-profits, etc.). There are also no additional fees when submitting participation reports for diplomates to receive credit.
