Remembering Charles B. Hammond, MD

It is with great sadness that the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) learned the news of the passing on February 1, 2021 of Charles B. Hammond, MD. Dr. Hammond served ABOG in several roles between 1975 – 1990. He will be remembered as a pioneer in women’s health for the immense contributions he made in numerous capacities, including as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center from 1980-2002.  

 

Dr. Hammond also contributed his time and valuable expertise to several professional societies, among them serving as President for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.  

 

His dedication and commitment to ABOG was exemplified by his service in the following roles:

Dr. Hammond graduated from The Citadel in 1957, earned a B.S. in Medicine from Duke University in 1960 and an M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1961.
