Why am I being asked about my practice patterns on the MOC applications?

As stated in our mission, at ABOG, our goal is to further women’s health care through certification and continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health. To better support our diplomates in the continuous learning process, a few questions have been added to help us at ABOG gain more understanding regarding your individual practice patterns. This information is being requested to enhance the article-based assessment section of your continuing certification process (MOC).

 

I have a non-time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. I am scheduled for the senior candidate CFP examination in 2024. Do I need to participate in MOC for 2024?

 

No. You do not need to participate in MOC before achieving certification in CFP.

 

 

I have a non-time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. What will be the status of my specialty certification when I pass the 2024 CFP examination?

 

When you pass the 2024 CFP examination and gain certification in CFP, your subspecialty certification will be time-limited while your specialty certification remains non-time-limited. You will be required to continuously maintain your subspecialty certification through annual participation in CFP MOC. You will be dually-certified for the remainder of 2024, and you must begin CFP MOC in 2025. You will be in CFP MOC Year 1 in 2025.

 

 

I have a time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. I will be in MOC Year 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 in 2024. I am scheduled for the CFP senior candidate examination in 2024. Do I need to participate in MOC for 2024?

 

It is important to remember that the 2024 CFP examination will be administered in July 2024, and examination results will not be available until October 2024.

 

Your options will depend on your exam results and whether you want to earn CME credits for successful completion of MOC.

 

If you pass the examination, you are not required to participate in 2024 MOC. You will be dually-certified for the remainder of 2024, and you must begin CFP MOC in 2025. You will be in CFP MOC Year 1 in 2025. You will automatically be awarded 60 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits from the American Medical Association for passing the senior candidate exam.

 

If you fail the examination, you will need to apply for and successfully meet all 2024 MOC requirements to maintain your specialty certification. For the 2024 MOC year, you may choose to:

  • Wait to apply for 2024 MOC until you receive the results of your CFP examination in October 2024. Since you failed the examination, you will need to apply for 2024 MOC and successfully meet all MOC requirements. You will receive CME credits for successful completion of MOC unless you choose the External CME option.
  • Apply for and participate in MOC before you take the CFP examination. Since you failed the CFP examination, you will need to meet all 2024 MOC requirements to maintain your specialty certification. You will receive CME credits for successful completion of MOC unless you choose the External CME option.

 

 

I have a time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. I am in MOC Year 6 in 2024 and I am not eligible for the MOC Performance Pathway. I am scheduled for the senior candidate CFP examination in July 2023. Do I need to take the MOC Part III examination?

 

If you pass the CFP senior candidate examination, you will not be required to take the MOC Part III examination.

 

If you fail the CFP senior candidate examination, you will be required to take and pass the MOC Part III examination and successfully meet all 2024 MOC requirements to maintain your specialty certification.
