I have a non-time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. What will be the status of my specialty certification when I pass the 2023 CFP examination?
When you pass the 2023 CFP examination and gain certification in CFP, your subspecialty certification will be time-limited while your specialty certification remains non-time-limited. You will be required to continuously maintain your subspecialty certification through annual participation in CFP MOC. You will be dually-certified for the remainder of 2023, and you must begin CFP MOC in 2024. You will be in CFP MOC Year 1 in 2024.
I have a time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. I will be in MOC Year 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 in 2023. I am scheduled for the CFP senior candidate examination in 2023. Do I need to participate in MOC for 2023?
It is important to remember that the 2023 CFP examination will be administered in July 2023, and examination results will not be available until October 2023.
Your options will depend on your exam results and whether you want to earn CME credits for successful completion of MOC.
If you pass the examination, you are not required to participate in 2023 MOC. You will be dually-certified for the remainder of 2023, and you must begin CFP MOC in 2024. You will be in CFP MOC Year 1 in 2024.
If you want to earn CME credits, you may choose to:
- Wait to apply for 2023 MOC until you receive the results of your CFP examination in October 2023. Since you passed the CFP examination, you will be dually-certified and would not be required to participate in or meet the MOC requirements for 2023. You will not receive CME credits if you do not meet all MOC requirements.
- Apply for and participate in 2023 MOC before you take the CFP examination in July 2023. You will receive CME credits for successful completion of MOC unless you choose the External CME option. However, there will be no refund of any fees.
If you fail the examination, you will need to apply for MOC by November 15, 2023 and successfully meet all 2023 MOC requirements by December 15, 2023, to maintain your specialty certification. For the 2023 MOC year, you may choose to:
- Wait to apply for 2023 MOC until you receive the results of your CFP examination in October 2023. Since you failed the examination, you will need to apply for 2023 MOC by November 15, 2023, and successfully meet all MOC requirements by December 15, 2023. You will receive CME credits for successful completion of MOC unless you choose the External CME option.
- Apply for and participate in MOC before you take the CFP examination. Since you failed the CFP examination, you will need to meet all 2023 MOC requirements by December 15, 2023, to maintain your specialty certification. You will receive CME credits for successful completion of MOC unless you choose the External CME option.
I have a time-limited certification in the specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. I am in MOC Year 6 in 2023 and I am not eligible for the MOC Performance Pathway. I am scheduled for the senior candidate CFP examination in July 2023. Do I need to take the MOC Part III examination?
If you pass the CFP senior candidate examination, you will not be required to take the MOC Part III examination.
If you fail the CFP senior candidate examination, you will be required to take and pass the MOC Part III examination and successfully meet all 2023 MOC requirements to maintain your specialty certification.
