ABOG is excited to announce that we have 2 at-large Board of Director positions opening July 2025. An at-large Director’s tenure is 6 years. It is an exciting time for ABOG as we embark on the implementation of our new strategic plan.
ABOG fosters a culture based on inclusive excellence, appreciation for diversity, promotion of equity, and respect for and acceptance of others. We believe in and embody a culture intentionally guided by diverse thought, varying backgrounds, and broad points of view to ensure ABOG certification represents the breadth of perspectives held by our diplomates and the patients they serve. To that end, the self-nomination process was developed to yield the broadest candidate pool from which to elicit qualifications for fostering effective contributions to the Board. This year, in addition to candidates who come from more traditional academic backgrounds, we specifically seek to actively augment our perspective as a board and collect self-nominations from OB-GYN leaders who possess community and rural perspectives.
Required:
- Practice in US or US Territories
- An ABOG diplomate participating in Continuing Certification
- Clinically active in OB-GYN or a subspecialty practice
- Specialty certified for 5 years or more as of July 1, 2025
Preferred:
- Current or past volunteer in ABOG programs or activities (committee member, item/case writer, standard-setting panelist, Job Task Analysis SME, etc.)
- Rural practice experience
- Leadership and governance experience in non-academic settings
- Current or past specialty or subspecialty board examiner
- Experience on a non-profit board
If elected, the time commitment is approximately 5 weeks annually. Obligations include attending Annual and Semiannual Board meetings, administering in-person Certifying Exams, and participating in Board committee appointments. Directors may also be assigned to either the Qualifying, Certifying or Continuing Certification Exam Development Committees which meet in person and virtually to review exam performance and develop exam items. All travel expenses, including lodging and meals, for meeting obligations are covered by ABOG, and each Director receives an honorarium. Most meetings will be Dallas-based in the ABOG National Center for Certification and Continuing Education. Committees may convene via virtual or hybrid formats. The term ends if certification in good standing is not maintained, or a board of director member accepts employment with a specialty or professional organization resulting in a conflict of interest. Active preparation and participation in board activities is required. Social media audits are performed on self-nominees as a part of the selection process to ensure social media presence aligns with ABOG’s standards for professionalism. The self-nomination period opens February 14, 2025, and closes April 14, 2025. If you have questions, contact Andrea Hernandez, Board Coordinator, at ahernandez@abog.org.
