Board of Directors Self-Nomination

ABOG is committed to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in its governance, culture, and certification exams/continuing certification programs. This includes improving participation of physicians from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups among volunteers, examiners, and directors.

Director requirements include:
  • An ABOG diplomate participating in Maintenance of Certification;
  • Current or past volunteer in ABOG programs or activities (certification examiner, committee member, exam development, item writer, standard setting, job task analysis SME, etc.); and
  • Clinically active in OB GYN or a subspecialty practice.

If elected, the time commitment is approximately five weeks annually. Obligations include attending Annual and Semiannual Board meetings, administering in-person Certifying Exams, and participating in Board committee appointments. Directors may also be assigned to either the Qualifying or the Certifying Exam Development Committee which meet in-person to review exam performance and develop exam items. All travel, lodging, and meals expenses for the meetings are covered by ABOG, and each Director receives an honorarium. Following completion of the new ABOG facility in Fall 2023, more meetings will be Dallas-based. Committees may convene via virtual or hybrid formats.

An at-large Director’s tenure is a single six-year term. The term ends if certification in good standing is not maintained or they become employed by a specialty or professional organization with a conflict of interest.

The nomination period is not currently open. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Martin, Director of Board Relations, at kmartin@abog.org.
